Are You Struggling with Addiction?
Addiction is not limited to alcohol, drugs, pornography and gambling, but could even extend to shopping and internet surfing(!), among many other things, if it is enslaving you. Defeating the power addiction may seem impossible, especially if you are trying to do it on your own.
The more we mature as believers, we realize deeply that we are weak humans and how crucial it is to rely on the Holy Spirit to intervene in every area of life. No matter what, we should hold onto Jesus Christ, as there is always victory with the Lord. He is the one who even overcame death on a cross... and resurrected! That same power can help you beat addiction.
May these Bible verses give you wisdom through struggles of addiction.
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world.
1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not be deceived: "Bad company ruins good morals."
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:12
"All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything.
1 Peter 2:11
Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.
1 Peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
