5 Things that the Gospel Frees Us From
Gospel, the Greek 'evangelion',literally means 'good news" and "the new of victory'. For christians, the gospel is good news of Jesus who overcame death and resurrected. And this good news of the gospel sets us free from those things that would otherwise helplessly bind us.
1. Gospel sets us free from the bondage of sin.
But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. (Romans 6:17-18)
2. Gospel sets us free from the fear of death.
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. (Hebrew 2:14-15)
3. Gospel sets us free from all condemnation
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[a] free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2)
4. Gospel sets us free from under the jurisdiction of the law
For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. (Romans 6:14)
5. Gospel sets us free from the wrath of God
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! (Romans 5:9)
